Over-APIed: When Software Architecture Ate Itself
We live in a world where everything has an endpoint. Want to check the weather? Hit an API. Want to send an email? Hit an API. Want to fetch the current phase of the moon, calculate a tip, or check if a cat is currently sleeping? There is an API, a microservice, and a JSON payload waiting for you.
We have officially entered the era of being “Over-APIed”—a state of software engineering where we have abstracted simple, localized logic into sprawling network dependencies, turning clean codebases into distributed labyrinths of HTTP requests.
